What is WAF?

A Web Application Firewall (WAF) is a product that protects websites by implementing a series of security checks for HTTP/HTTPS communications. These communications protocols are used between a browser and a website to communicate over the Internet. A WAF is usually deployed between a web server and the Internet and inspects all HTTP/HTTPS traffic. WAF protection covers common hacker attacks such as cross-site scripting, remote code execution, SQL and XML injection as well as several other threat types.

Every website needs protection. A network firewall does not protect a website. For website protection, one must use a web application firewall (WAF). Traditional WAFs have a list of “signatures” collected from previous attacks and then use this historic list to detect future attacks. It then blocks all unsafe access behaviors. In this way zyWAF can block unknown attacks and provided “zero-day” protection from new attack types.

Machine learning
